BCIT Professional Development Day (PD Day) 2025 will be held at the Burnaby Campus on Wednesday, June 4 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm for all staff and faculty.
This year’s theme, Coming Together for Student Success, recognizes our collective impact in fostering vibrant and inclusive communities and excellent educational programming that supports student success. Sessions throughout the day will focus on four areas – education, work, wellbeing, and technology – to inspire a dynamic culture of shared learning, engagement, and collaboration.
The day will kick-off with a warm welcome and an inspiring keynote address, followed by a series of development sessions. To close the event, you will be invited to enjoy a complimentary BBQ lunch while mingling with your colleagues.
Education is evolving rapidly. The education track explores innovative and best-practice approaches that enhance learning and teaching. Join in discussions about how we are designing and delivering education in fresh ways that helps our students achieve success. Note that sessions on Ai fit in this stream if they are centred on the way Ai supports and transforms the process of learning or teaching.
The workplace is changing, and so are the strategies that drive success. Explore how we are adapting to new challenges, fostering collaboration, and adapting to create change-ready, inclusive, and efficient work environments.
In a fast-paced world, achieving balance is more important than ever. The well-being track focuses on holistic wellness. Learn from experts who share insights on mindfulness, resilience, and work-life harmony, helping to cultivate a culture of overall physical and mental health.
Technology is at the heart of transformation across industries. The technology track delves into how innovative tools, systems, and platforms are empowering us to function in a smarter, more connected world. While technology may be used in the other streams, the focus of this stream is on introducing the technology itself.
At BCIT, every one of us has the chance to make a difference in student success through our work, teaching, services, and even those spontaneous moments when we offer help to a lost-looking student.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome Kathi Hemphill Camilleri as our keynote speaker. Kathi, a citizen of the Métis Nation of BC, brings kindness, humor, and wisdom to create a safe and transformative experience for her audience. Her work focuses on cultural safety and competency, conflict resolution, and collaboration, inspired by her mother's resilience as a survivor of Canada's policy of assimilation.
In this experiential session, you will be inspired to deepen your understanding of how we can strengthen BCIT as a Village. Reflect on your personal and organizational roles in fostering values that have thrived for thousands of years. This forum is a wonderful opportunity for each participant to consider how they support the student experience and contribute to inclusivity, sustainability, health, and wellbeing – all in support of BCIT’s IDEAS lens, a key component of our Strategic Plan.
Kathi uses humour, kindness, and wisdom to hold the space safely for us while we change how we see the world and how we forever interact with those who have Aboriginal Heritage.
Traditionally, Indigenous communities had many ways of treating one another that affirmed the belief that everyone is a sacred gift. This session will help you understand these traditional values and explore your role in supporting their revival. It will be a great forum for every participant to reflect on how their area supports the BCIT student experience and together, how our community fosters sustainability, health and wellbeing.
